Three-Phase EV Charging

Higher-power three-phase EV charger installation for commercial premises and properties with three-phase supplies.

My EV Box installs three-phase EV chargers for commercial, industrial and residential properties with three-phase electrical supplies across North East England. Three-phase charging delivers up to 22kW — significantly faster than standard single-phase installations.

Three-Phase EV Charging — What It Means and Who Needs It

Most domestic properties in the UK are supplied with single-phase electricity, which supports EV chargers up to 7kW. Properties with a three-phase supply — typically commercial premises, industrial units and some larger residential properties — can support chargers up to 22kW AC, which charges compatible vehicles approximately three times faster.

My EV Box installs three-phase EV charge points for businesses and properties with existing three-phase supplies across Hartlepool, Teesside, County Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle and the wider North East. We assess the supply, select the appropriate charger, and manage the full installation including any required distribution board work and DNO notification.

Not all electric vehicles can accept the full 22kW three-phase input — vehicle charging capability varies by make and model. We advise on this during the quotation process to ensure the charger and vehicle are matched appropriately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most domestic properties in the UK have a single-phase supply. Three-phase supplies are more common in commercial premises, industrial units, and some larger or newer residential properties. Your electricity meter will typically indicate whether you have a three-phase supply. If you are unsure, a qualified electrician can check.
No. Vehicle on-board charger capacity varies significantly. Many vehicles accept up to 7.4kW single phase and only 11kW or 22kW three phase. Others, including many popular EVs, are limited to 7.4kW regardless of charger output. We advise on this during the quotation.
Yes. Three-phase EV charger installations require notification to the Distribution Network Operator under current regulations. For larger installations, a formal G99 application may be required. We manage and submit this as part of the installation scope.
If the property has an existing three-phase supply, a three-phase charger can be installed. However, the vehicle's on-board charger must also support three-phase input to benefit from the higher power. For most domestic vehicles, a 7kW single-phase unit is more cost-effective.
This is possible but involves an application to your Distribution Network Operator and significant electrical work. It is generally cost-effective only where there is a clear need for higher-power charging across multiple vehicles or where three-phase supply benefits other site equipment. We can advise on this during the consultation.
