EV Charger Fault Finding

Qualified electricians investigate and diagnose EV charger faults across the North East.

If your EV charger has stopped working, is tripping your consumer unit or displaying an error, My EV Box can investigate the fault. All diagnostic work is carried out by Grays Electrical and Compliance Ltd — qualified electricians with extensive experience in EV charge point systems.

EV Charger Fault Diagnosis and Investigation

EV charger faults can arise from a range of causes — a fault in the charger unit itself, a problem with the dedicated circuit, an issue with protective devices at the consumer unit, or a communication error between the charger and the vehicle or network. Identifying the source of the fault requires a qualified electrician with knowledge of EV charge point systems.

My EV Box carries out EV charger fault finding across Hartlepool, Teesside, County Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle and surrounding areas. We investigate the fault, identify the cause, advise on the required remedial action and carry out repairs or replacements where practical.

We work on chargers from a range of manufacturers. Where a fault is manufacturer-specific and requires warranty repair through the manufacturer's service network, we advise on the appropriate course of action.

Frequently Asked Questions

Repeated tripping of a breaker or RCD can be caused by an earth fault in the charger or circuit, an overloaded circuit, a deteriorating protective device, or a fault within the charger unit itself. A qualified electrician needs to test the circuit and charger to identify the specific cause.
Yes. Error codes vary by manufacturer and model. We can investigate the fault in the context of both the charger unit and the electrical installation. For manufacturer-specific firmware faults, we advise on whether warranty repair through the manufacturer is appropriate.
Communication faults between the charger and vehicle are sometimes electrical in origin (a fault in the control pilot circuit) and sometimes software or firmware related. We can assess the electrical aspects of the charger and circuit. Firmware issues may require manufacturer involvement.
We can carry out repairs to the electrical installation — such as replacing a faulty protective device, rewiring a termination or replacing a section of cable. If the fault is within the charger unit itself and requires manufacturer parts, we advise on the appropriate repair route.
A call-out and diagnostic charge applies to all fault finding visits. We provide a clear report of findings and recommended next steps. Where we carry out repair work during the same visit, this is charged separately.
