We assess each property individually — there is no one-size approach. Some older properties may require additional electrical assessment of the consumer unit or earthing arrangement before a charger can be installed. Properties with longer cable routes between the consumer unit and the intended charger position may also involve additional cost. Any requirements are explained clearly before any work is agreed.

Newer residential developments at Coulby Newham and the properties around Marton Road and Nunthorpe are particularly well suited to domestic EV charger installation. Many have modern consumer units, sufficient supply capacity and either a garage or an accessible front drive. The most common installation here is a 7.4kW smart charge point, fitted to an exterior wall or inside a garage, allowing most electric vehicles to charge fully overnight.

Older properties in parts of Linthorpe, Hemlington and central Middlesbrough require more careful assessment before installation. We check the existing consumer unit, the earthing arrangement and the incoming supply to make sure a charge point can be added safely.
